The Alcon InnoVit, invented by Steve Charles, MD, was the first dual-actuated cutter that eliminated the spring and enabled higher cutting rates without flow reduction. It was pneumatically operated, disposable, limited oscillating rotary action to prevent winding of vitreous collagen fibers.
